C is one of the most widely-used languages for systems software and workstation application programming, largely due to its power and flexibility. This course will provide you a highly effective, structured approach to learning the C language.

The course provides a thorough introduction to unit testing concepts and strategies. It describes techniques and strategies for implementing a Unit Testing framework in C and provides an overview of some open source C Unit Testing frameworks. It covers the concepts underlying unit testing, the requirements and characteristics of good unit testing frameworks and the way these concepts are realised in some practical frameworks.

In this course you’ll learn advanced programming techniques using dynamic data structures and algorithms. Finite state machines and statecharts and their uses are covered in depth. You’ll also learn techniques specific to embedded systems, such as structured interrupt handling, implementation of simple schedulers, and how to work with embedded operating systems. You’ll learn the standard inter-process communication mechanisms and their uses.

This course discusses C programming in the context of implementing C applications for 8 bit and 16 bit micro-controller architectures. A distinction is made between pure ANSI C programming and use of pragmas and extensions as found with various embedded C compilers targeted at specific microcontrollers.

This is an intensive introduction to ANSI C programming using the GNU C compiler. At the end of the course attendees should be reasonably confident in reading and writing C programs and have a good practical understanding of advanced topics such as the use of C pointers, the relationship between pointers and arrays, as well as dynamic memory allocation and memory management.

This intensive, fast paced course enables experienced C programmers to begin writing embedded C++ software. It covers all the commonly used features of the C++ language and provides insights into the strengths and limitations of these features in the context of implementing embedded applications. Additionally, the course discusses the implemention of C++ class wrappers around C-based operating system APIs and TCP/IP socket APIs.

C++ is undoubtedly the most widely-used programming language for implementing object-oriented systems. The C++ language is based on the popular C language. However, the demand for the language has expanded beyond C programmers looking to upgrade to C++, and a number of C programming practices and features are not required, or are seen as detrimental, in C++ programs.

C++ is the standard language for implementing object-oriented designs, but although based on C, C++ introduces many subtle syntactic and design issues. For developers whose C++ experience goes back further, many of the changes as a result of standardisation make standard C++ a very different programming environment.

Unlike many other introductory C++ courses that use Microsoft, or Borland integrated development environments this course is based on the gnu C++ compiler. Programmers attending this course will learn to write carefully thought out and well implemented C++ code and learn a lot about the GNU C++ compiler at the same time.
